Boone County Parks Wins Award!!!
- Boone County's Parks and Recreation Department is Kentucky's best according to a newly bestowed award.
The department was honored as the Outstanding Department for 2009 at the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society conference in Louisville recently. It's an award given to only one parks department in the state each year.
With a population of 115,000 and growing, Boone County is seeing a growing demand for recreational opportunity. During the last year, 31,089 participants registered or participated in the department's programs.
Over 12,000 youth participated in sports programs and over 11,000 people attended the Union Pool.
"This is an outstanding accomplishment! I commend the Parks and Recreation Staff for their commitment to Boone County's citizens. I am proud of this honor," said Boone County Judge-Executive Gary Moore.
The Parks Department oversees 17 facilities with more than 1,901 acres of dedicated parks and recreation space. Facilities are maintained by the Parks Maintenance staff.
